Better late than never, right?
For the last few years, we've tried to make the decorating of gingerbread houses into a winter tradition. The first year was a disaster of parts that wouldn't stay together, resulting in a frustration smashing of said ginger pieces. I recovered, only to end up HOT GLUING the houses together and laughing through the explosion on icing out of the piping bag's back and into a gloopy mess. (We turned this into "snow."
Since then, I have discovered the ingenious company that sells kits with the houses ALREADY ASSEMBLED. It's worth the extra $5 per box. However, the boys have been too young and needed so much help with the ever-exploding icing bags that it still turns into one heartache or another, as reality doesn't turn out like the perfect picture on the box.
This year, I thought that maybe, just maybe, everyone might have been old enough to FINALLY have a stress-free gingerbread decorating day. NOPE.
Although it was (sort of) fun while it lasted, I've decided that we are going to let this one go. No more gingerbread tradition in our house. It's just not worth the stress and frustration between the mess, my OCD/perfectionist children who want their finish products to look professional. I'm learning to let go of less important things, and this is one of them.
And, I'm okay with that.
