New Year's Eve

With all the holiday season sickness of 2017, I never managed to take a photo of the boys' Christmas PJs from the elves.  Ryan told me, "our elves know just what we like: warm and soft pajamas."

On New Year's Eve, we played lots and lots of games and managed to stay up to watch the ball drop live in NYC.  It's a new record!

Sick Holiday

Germs are a hell of a thing.  Sending off the family back to their home with illness, we were off to the doctor to try to combat our own.  Hours at the doctor, and we finally had a diagnosis:  Walking pneumonia.  Z-packs and home to rest.

I, too, had spent more time at the hospital, having another test done on my heart and being a pin cushion for several IV tries.

Our holiday has been spent with many indoor hours.  We even worked together to complete this kitty puzzle!  Stir crazy much?

Small Moments

This month has flown by!  It's been a wonderful time of the year, as always.

One night, Ryan and Evan made dinner:  burritos.

Evan mixed up a drink.

Mom and Dad got a new bed, and Ryan REALLY wanted to cuddle in it.

I love the small moments that make life wonderful.

Gingerbread Houses

Better late than never, right?

For the last few years, we've tried to make the decorating of gingerbread houses into a winter tradition.  The first year was a disaster of parts that wouldn't stay together, resulting in a frustration smashing of said ginger pieces.  I recovered, only to end up HOT GLUING the houses together and laughing through the explosion on icing out of the piping bag's back and into a gloopy mess.  (We turned this into "snow."

Since then, I have discovered the ingenious company that sells kits with the houses ALREADY ASSEMBLED.  It's worth the extra $5 per box.  However, the boys have been too young and needed so much help with the ever-exploding icing bags that it still turns into one heartache or another, as reality doesn't turn out like the perfect picture on the box.

This year, I thought that maybe, just maybe, everyone might have been old enough to FINALLY have a stress-free gingerbread decorating day.  NOPE.

Although it was (sort of) fun while it lasted, I've decided that we are going to let this one go.  No more gingerbread tradition in our house.  It's just not worth the stress and frustration between the mess, my OCD/perfectionist children who want their finish products to look professional.  I'm learning to let go of less important things, and this is one of them.

And, I'm okay with that.

Elves

When Stephen was turning the calendar over from November to December, Kyle happened to be right there.  He was adamant that, "those elves better be here tomorrow."  Stephen was surprised at his sincerity.  Another year of magic, here we go....

Buddy, Merry, and Natalie joined us again for December.  They brought PJs and notes of encouragement.

I wasn't able to capture all their hiding spots, but here most of them.

Until next Christmas, elves!

Christmas 2017

We had guest on Christmas morning!  Santa knew where to go:

Kyle wrapped up a special gift for us: a poetry book!

We almost lost Meow-Meow in the trash!

Headphones were a hit....I'm wondering if we might use this for Evan at school.

#silentbutdeadly: my favorite gift for Evan:

SURPRISE!

We then went over for part 2.
Sadly, our boys were all so sick, they all took turns sleeping through opening presents.

Burritos from Midland/Hobbs!

Later, the boys came over to try out the SNES.  Brothers, much?

It was a Merry  Christmas, and to all a good night!
