Thankful: Day 30 (FAMILY)
I am so thankful for my family. I am also thankful for a friend that does photos at a great price. And, that all my boys are so good about getting pictures done!!!! (We were able to get over 80 good ones in only 20 minutes!!!) There will be many more to come, but I was able to get this preview ahead of time in order to buy Christmas cards at the Cyber Monday price!
What a fun month of Thanksgiving!
Now, it's on to the spirit of Christmas!

Thankful: Day 29 (Vacation Fun!)

The older boys got to do the Ropes Course for the first time and LOVED it!!!
ZIPLINE!!!
Evan did not give up on the lily pad! He still loved it!!! This was also the first year he could go on the big slides. He was scared at first. I had to bribe him to go on any of them. By the last day, he finally rode all 4. Now, he says he can't wait to go back and ride "the toilet" and the "bubba tub."
BIG BUCKET!!!!!!
Evan said, "I remember this!! Take my picture like I'm eating this cupcake!)
We also enjoyed the Christmas stuff being up. The top of the tree and the star were right down the hall from our room!
We were able to win enough tickets in the arcade to replace Evan's ball that got popped during the Thanksgiving kickball game!!! (He got it from Dave & Buster's, so I'm sure it's pretty comparable!!)
So long, GWL! Until next year!!!

Thankful: Day 28 (Great Wolf Lodge)
We've gone to Great Wolf Lodge every November for a few years now. (Evan thinks we go there for his birthday!) This year, we asked if any of Stephen's family wanted to join us. They all did, but it had to be done over Thanksgiving break.
I wasn't a fan of the greater number of people there, but we still had plenty of fun!

Thankful: Day 27 (Thanksgiving)
A few of us watched a beatdown.
At least the band won halftime AND we had a kid-free date night!

Thankful: Day 26 (Traditions)
One thing the boys and I do every year around Christmas time. I LOVE getting to bake with the boys as we make a pumpkin pie!!!
Almost too good to eat. Almost.

Thankful: Day 25 (Boys' Day)
Since Stephen was off for the whole week of Thanksgiving, there were many fun things planned. One of those was a day at Dave & Buster's for the boys. They had a blast!!!

Thankful: Day 24 (Kind Words)
In 1st garde, the students made these turkeys out of paper bags. Then, classmates took turn writing notes with kind words about each of their friends. It was so fun to read some of the comments in Ryan's turkey!
(Ryan has a good heart. Ryan always follows the rules. Also, there were plenty of different varieties of "Ryan is cute.")
I"m so glad Ryan got some positive messages from his friends!

Thankful: Day 23 (Baby Laughter)
I love laughter! This might explain a little about why I have basically the same thing I'm grateful for the same thing two days in a row. Even though I love smiling and laughing, there's something special about a baby's laughter and the magic of making a baby laugh.
My boys learned they can make their cousin laugh by acting like they are punching themselves!!! So funny!!!

November Birthdays
While everyone was in town for Thanksgiving week, we were able to go out to Chuy's to celebrate all the November birthdays! YUM!!
Thankful: Day 22 (Laughter)
I am so thankful for things in life that make me smile or laugh. This quote was a winner this week. When life gets hard and sometimes a little overwhelming, I can always give myself a break.

Thankful: Day 21 (Independent Kids)
I've recently been reminding myself how these strong willed children are a blessing and this independence can be a great help. Evan has leadership tendencies and is self-motivated, a self-starter. Often, he knows what he wants and can come up with a way to get it done. Evan has been able to dress himself for quite some time now, often picking his own outfits. The latest favorite is the red/black plaid socks. He wore them three times this week. (Yes, they were washed each time.) I'm grateful I am out of the stage of dressing all the kids, thanks to the boys growing up and being more independent.
Rarely, these independent qualities can be frustrating or a negative. Last week, I was called in for a parent/teacher conference over some "classroom concerns." We guessed the problem: Evan has been spontaneously hitting, slapping in the face, and even pinching in the groin area. "It's not done maliciously,"the teachers assured me. "This usually happens because he wants to be in charge or the leader and doesn't get his way or has someone in his way."
Evan is my "physical touch" baby, and thus often expresses frustration in physical ways. This doesn't excuse his use of force to try to convince his peers to see things his way, however.
The teachers assured me they didn't want me to punish Evan or have extra consequences at home. They were more interested in making us aware of what was going on at school and to be informed in case Evan came home talking about how he couldn't play in the tee-pee anymore, had a new towel time spot in the corner, or had to play by himself. These consequences are used most often because Evan is such a social boy. The teachers also told me that he has lots of friends and is a good friend. He just doesn't think about using his words.
Thankfully, they also feel how kind and loving Evan is, despite his sometimes poor choices. Like they do, I keep telling myself that he will be a great leader someday!

Thankful: Day 20 (Happy Boys)
Sometimes, something small can bring great joy. Sometimes, that small thing is actually big. All the boys have gotten a Wubble Bubble Ball for a gift at one time or another. Even though it only lasts minutes or hours, at the most, these things are so fun.
Evan got a SUPER one for his birthday, even though I tried to talk him out of it, for obvious reasons. I was assured that "it's made of 'EXPANDIUM,' and 'an elephant can stand on it' without the bubble popping.
WRONG!
It was great fun while it lasted!

Thankful: Day 19 (Texas A&M)
I LOVE my alma mater, Texas A&M. I love that we are able to have so many experiences in Aggieland, especially since we've moved back. On Saturday, we were able to attend a football game as a family. Uncle Bando, Aunt Julia, Claire, and Dayton also got to go, thanks to some free tickets from a friend.
It was pretty chilly....FINALLY!!!
Evan was too busy playing to grab his jacket, even though I reminded him AT LEAST 3 times. Good thing I thought to bring a blanket!!!

The boys were cold, but had fun. They especially liked getting nachos, a pretzel, a funnel cake, and hot chocolate.
On the way back to the car (we also got to use a free parking pass!) the cousins all walked up on the wall, a favorite.

Gig 'em, Aggies!!! We won, WHOOP!

Thankful: Day 18 (Group Projects)
I used to hate group work in school. It only worked if your partners pulled their weight, which didn't often happen. Recently, I've been able to work with many groups on projects in several capacities--church activities, breast cancer events, and party planning. It's been great to have people to count on.
Kyle had his first big experience with group work. During math class, he and a partner planned questions, surveyed 1st graders, collected data, and prepared graphs to show the results. They scored 93, since his partner accidentally recorded in the conclusion the wrong results. I guess he'll learn at a young age that you have to double check partner work and have them help yours, too.

Thankful: Day 17 (Date Night)
Date night at Ronin Cooking is one of my favorite things we have done in BCS. Last month, we joined some friends, some of Stephen's coworkers, for a night out and an amazing dinner. I love the ambience, the chance to experience many different foods, and the experience of dining there. The apple tart was amazing.

Thankful: Day 16 (Experiments)
Evan was begging and begging to open all the fun things he got for his birthday. I told him he had to wait for Dad to do the rock tumbler. EVERY.SINGLE. SECOND he saw Stephen, Evan reminded him that "you said we'd do the rock machine, Dad." He finally got his wish 2 days after his birthday. (I had NO idea how long the tumbler took. I thought you'd have shiny rocks in an hour. An easy-bake oven it is not.)
Here's the rocks before. We'll have the after in a week or so.
I promised Evan to do his crystal growing experiment. As long as we were already working on one thing, we got started on the other. We'll have cyrstals in a few days, too.
I'm grateful for fun ways to keep busy at home.
