Trick or Treat!
On Halloween night we got together for a chili and soup bar. Even though we'd invited several neighbors, a stomach bug had made the rounds and it was just Coopers. We ate quickly and got on with the real fun of the night---TRICK OR TREATING!!!
Happy Halloween from the dog and ghost and the Neverland Coopers:
Our neighborhood is perfect for trick or treating! So fun!
The haul:
I'm trying to convince the boys to pick out just their very favorites and then take the rest to a buy-back program---after I've stolen all the Reese's, that is.
Class Party
I signed up to help out with the Halloween party at the preschool. It worked out that Grandma got to come, too, while Grandpa stayed home with Evan. {Thanks, that was amazing!}
Claire and Ryan were excited to see Grandma there. What a nice surprise!
Here's the class, waiting for their snacks. I did the food, and we had candy corn fruit cups and fruit with Monster Dip. The teachers brought out some veggies and a cracker tray they had prepared in case because in year's past, parents have only brought sugar cookies.
I think they liked it!
For the craft, everyone got to make a mason jar luminary. Ryan and Claire both chose a ghost.
The finished products:
Hooray for a successful party!

Homemade Halloween
Ryan's preschool encourages homemade costumes for their Halloween festivities, to allow children to remain creative and not brainwashed by copying well-known characters. They give you a brown paper bag to use as a starting point. We waited until the last minute to make Ryan's costume because he was deciding on what to create. He mentioned a cow, an alien, a robot, a lion, a monster, and finally decided on a skeleton. I was ALL for this one, since he has skeleton PJs, and I knew he could just paint a skull on his paper bag. He wanted one square eye, one triangle eye, a small nose, and a scary mouth. I helped him cut out the face, and then he painted it all white.
Evan wanted to make something, too, so we found another sack and let him get to work. He made a robot.
Kyle's school had Book Character Day for dressing up, so Kyle was able to put together this Lorax ensemble. He loved it so much, he wanted to wear it again for next year!!! Halloween morning, the boys were all dressed in their school costumes:
It's nice that there are so many Halloween-related events, so we can dress up in different costumes, if needed.

Jack O' Lanterns
Our pumpkins were carved JUST in time for Halloween. With the heat/humidity around here, you have to wait until the last minute, anyway, but this year was one of eleventh-hour things. We were able to carve out some time to get these jack o' lanterns carved just before the big day.
I love this tradition, and it cracks me up how the boys think the pumpkin seeds and guts are so gross! I also love that they are old enough to create their own faces and be involved in the process.
Ryan wanted circle eyes, a triangle nose, and a scary mouth with lots of teeth.
I love watching them pull the top off and see the guts.
Kyle designed his face this year, too.
Our finished pumpkins:
Scary faces!!!!
Happy Halloween Eve!!!

Trunk-or-Treat
I LOVE Halloween!!! And, I love that we have more than one event to dress up for. The trunk-or-Treat at church was the first time we pulled out the family costume for 2014: Peter Pan/Jake & the Neverland Pirates.
Here's the whole family: Izzy, Captain Hook and Mr. Smee, Jake, and Peter Pan. I love this crew!!!
ARRRRR, Matey!!!!! {Also, my hair is long enough to put into tiny pig tails!!!!! Kyle told me, "Mom, you look like a little girl." Good. That's what I'm supposed to be.}
We got lots and LOTS of candy.
We met up with some friends and our cousins.
We saw some spooky stuff.
And, we played games.
A fun time was had by all!!!!!!
