YUCK!

I just got puked on! Kyle finished eating his jar of broccoli and carrots with cheese (previewed by "Party in my Tummy,") and I was carrying him to the bathroom to put him in the tub. WHAM-O! Barf everywhere! It was all down the front of me, all over the floor, splattered onto the walls, into the dog dish, coming out of Kyle's nose.....gross! My first experience with "real" vomit....not just the formula kind...chunks and nastiness. At least it doesn't stink too bad yet and it wasn't on the carpet or all in his high chair. It could have been (and WILL be in the future, I'm sure) a lot worse!

Julianna graduated from UVU, UVSC until this summer, on Friday, April 25th. (I know we were celebrating her day, but I HAD to throw in the fact that the day was ALSO the 4-month-until-my-birthday date.) Anyway, we went over to the graduation at 12:30. It was NOT the most pleasant event to attend with a 9-month-old. He was fussy, cranky, tired, ripped my necklace off my neck (again,) and FINALLY fell asleep, with 20 minutes left. I guess the frustrating part was how much EVERY Joe Blow LOVES to hear the sound of his/her own voice. I can't tell you how many times I heard the phrase, "[So-and-so] is just going to say a few words." Yeah, right. A few words turned into 10 minutes again and again. Maybe it just seemed to extend longer and longer since I was trying to keep Kyle entertained and happy. HOWEVER, I love my sister and wanted to support her. We're very proud of her and hope that her B.S. (Summa Cum Laude) will help her get where she wants to be in life! Go-Fight-UVU!

After the graduation, we all went out to celebrate, at a place called Teppanyaki....not sure on the spelling....It's basically Benihana. The food was great, but the best part of the meal was watching Kyle's reactions to the grill. When our chef dude lit the original flames, Kyle was nearly in shock! His eyes got huge, he leaned WAY back, and was astounded by what he was observing! He LOVED the fish tanks and kept trying to grab the fish through the glass. He also got VERY amused by everything around him, and by playing "peek-a-boo." Brandon asked, "is he always this full of laughter?" He is. We rolled a "Yahtzee!"

Thanks for graduating, Jules. It was nice to have another event for the weekend!

My Little Brother's Wedding

After eight years of being the odd man (woman) out, it finally happened.....one of my siblings got married! Lacie Durrant and Bryan Joseph Boulter were sealed together for time and eternity in the Mount Timpanogos LDS Temple, on April 24, 2008. I am so glad that Stephen, Kyle, and I could be there!

We met at the temple at 9:30, for their 10:00 ceremony. Two funny stories: 1) Brandon almost missed the wedding because he was waiting with Grandma Bobbie...in the WRONG place!!! Good thing he's no dummy and decided to take action and ask where everyone else was! 2) We had to start keeping track of the number of times Brandon was asked about his "better half" or to stand "in couples." He was reminded many times that he is SINGLE.
A meaningful story: During the ceremony, the bride and groom kneel at an altar to make their wedding covenants. It's a little different from the wording of the "usual" wedding vows, but the officiator still speaks to each by name before asking them about their vows. When he said, "Bryan Joseph Boulter," speaking to my brother, my mom said Bryan was looking right at her, and she felt overcome with emotion. Later, I remembered feeling the same warm, overwhelming feeling at this exact moment, but pushed it away, so as not to start crying. What's the meaningful part? Bryan's middle name is after my mom's father: Joseph. It felt special to feel that pouring in of emotions at the moment of Bryan's full name being spoken, almost as if Gramps was looking down from heaven, smiling and sending his approval to his "little round-headed kid" of a grandson.
The not-so-fun story: it was FREEZING and WINDY all day (and night) long!!! We tried to take a few pictures with family outside the temple, but hair was flying everywhere, it was hard to fake a smile, and Kyle was NOT happy!

After that, we headed over to a wedding luncheon. Dad mc'd the event, making a few remarks about the important things in life. He read Robert Fulghum's "MOTB." about a Mother of The Bride who was OUT OF CONTROL in wanting EVERY detail JUST SO. She was paying for it, so it was going to be the way SHE wanted it. Of course, as fate would have it, the bride puked all over many guests and the groom, as she came down the aisle. All the details and prepping then became secondary to making the vows and looking forward to living together, "happily ever after." Dad related this story to each of us. Remember what's really important in life; don't get caught up in all the details. Mom also sang a beautiful song, and we all relaxed and had a nice time.

Later that evening, Bryan and Lacie had a reception. We met early for a few more pictures, and then partied all night....until 9:00.

A few memories: Kyle was so exhausted that he slept through over an hour of the reception! My brother, Matt, or rather, "Flat Matt" was the life of the party. (Matt is serving a mission for our church in Guatemala. He couldn't make it back, so he sent "the other him: the flat version.") One of Bryan's friends got them a mirror with their names etched into the glass. Nice thought, but Bryan was spelled "Brian." HA! Bryan and Lacie SMASHED cake all over each other. Emmalee caught the bouquet. Bryan's friends TRASHED his car with junk...food, condoms, plungers, stickers....and my dad had to go get it cleaned before the happy couple could leave for the evening. Dad was not amused. Then we sent them off, and headed home to rest for the next big event....graduation!

Center of Attention

Kyle certainly was a one man show this week! Even with family events ranging from a wedding to a graduation to prom, Kyle outranked everything! He relished in the attention and put on quite a performance, night after night and from place to place. For his first trick, he climbed all the way up the stairs. (He performed an encore at the wedding reception, too!) He also discovered several new toys, started pulling himself up on everything, and had his first driving lesson! He then ate Granna's "Delicious Chocolate Cake", Grandpa's "Cowboy Coffee Cake," Asian noodles, fried rice, mashed potatoes, and who knows what else mom wasn't able to supervise! He was the dinner show many evenings, as he just laughed and laughed and laughed. Everyone had such a good time with the Little Man that we decided to let him stay with his "peeps" for a few more days. Auntie Deb and Grama Sue weren't flying home until today, so we all surprised Granna and let Kyle stay in Utah!

Leaving On a Jet Plane

We are getting ready to leave on our trip to Utah for Bryan (my brother) and Lacie's wedding and Jules' (my sister) college graduation! We are really excited to have a break, to see family and friends, and to be a part of the big events. We'll be back on Saturday, sadly, so I'll update the blog then!!!

Visitors from Afar

Liz and Jon were able to take a little trip up to Midland to see us! It was nice to get to spend some time with them. Kyle had fun showing off all his new tricks to someone new. Stephen had to work most of the time they were here, but Kyle and I were able to hang out with them a couple of nights. We also visited Liz's favorite places in Midland to eat: Taco Villa and The Cattle Baron. Kyle tried several new foods at The Cattle Baron, but wanted to stick with plain 'ol Cheerios!

Augustus Gloop

Kyle is now eating some finger foods. Yesterday, he was having a little snack of some Mini Nilla Wafers. He's had them before with no problem. Today, however, the little glutton decided to put them all in his mouth at one time! He was fitting them into his cheeks and any other available oral cavity space. As you may have guessed, the mouth reached its full capacity, and one lone wafer sneaked down the throat. Not expecting to actually have to chew it, Kyle was in for a shock! I heard that awful choking sound, followed by no breathing. So, out of the high chair he flew and into the baby Heimlich Maneuver. This is how I found out about Augustus (Kyle) not slowing down and saving room for later! Several pieces of Nilla Wafer popped out, and I excavated many more from the caverns of his mouth. I guess it's rations from now on, Augustus!

Here he is, climbing OVER the Boppy to get his bottle...(more food!) I couldn't capture it in the picture, but he climbed over and just started trying to drink the bottle in this position. Gravity was not his friend in this endeavor!

Bad Morning

Kyle was NOT in a good mood this morning. That makes church SO enjoyable...from the foyer. At least I could still hear the speakers/music from out there. It was weird, though. He's usually such a happy guy...only cries when hungry, tired, or poopy. Not today! Fuss, fuss, fuss. Even after he took a little nap (finally) and had a bottle, he wasn't better. I think it's hard to be off his schedule and not get to sleep in his own bed and get woken up by all the noises of people passing at church.

Stephen has always referred to having a bad attitude as "having poo-poo undies." So, I kept calling Kyle "poo-poo undies" and asking him why he had "poo-poo undies." He was just NOT happy. As it turns out, "poo-poo undies" WAS part of the problem....or, rather, the LACK thereof. Constipation was the culprit today, I do believe. We seem to have taken care of the "poo-poo undies" by making them! HA!

More Crawling

Another Saturday. I love being able to work around my own schedule (and Kyle's) and not the school's. Kyle is a busy boy. He's crawling everywhere now and helping me around the house so much! (By "helping," I mean keeping me busy, too!) I made another video of him crawling...this time with a little more light!

And, here's your daily dose of pictures:

Science Rules!!!!

Today we took our fifth graders on a science field trip! After MANY days of selling lollipops...at a 25 cent each profit...and donations from community members, we were able to afford the outrageous cost of the trip to the Science Spectrum in Lubbock. (Most of the cost was in the buses/gas to get there.)

A GREAT time was had by all! We made bubbles, played with all sorts of scientific demonstrations, learned the science of sports, watched a dinosaur movie at the Omni Theater, and bought out the gift shop. Thank you to everyone who helped our kids get this amazing opportunity. It was well worth the 50 mph bus ride there and back. (How did we EVER drive that SLOWLY all the time???)

Nine Months Old

Kyle is 9 months old today! It's hard to believe that much time has passed since he came into our lives. What a great time we have had being parents and getting to know this sweet little spirit that has been brought into our family! We love you, Kyle!

Camo Joe

With his new skill of crawling, Kyle is ready to explore. I thought I'd pull out the camo overalls to get him in the spirit of adventure.

It must have worked.....Kyle has now ventured into Atlas' bed. As you can see from the picture, Atlas was NOT amused! She tried to back as far into the back of her bed as possible. When she realized that Kyle had her backed into a corner, she tried to squeeze out of there ASAP. This is yet another thing I need to watch out for. Atlas is great, but I don't want her to feel threatened at all by Kyle. With my history of awful luck with animals, I'm all about prevention.
